Fantasy Blogosphere: October 31, 2010

A fairly calm week in the fantasy blogosphere, with only one review of note crossing the wire. Naomi Novik swings by The Dragon Page, and R.A. Salvatore chats with Del Rey. Barnes & Noble released a full color, Android-based Nook this week, which will fill the slot between cheaper e-ink readers and the full-featured iPad starting at $500. The new Nook has a great price point, starting under $300 around $250. The Hobbit movie is officially staying in New Zealand, and check out the footage from the lead costume designer for the new HBO Game of Thrones series.

Slews of reviews and interviews this week, with the New York Comic Con concluding yesterday. Check out the interviews with Joe Abercrombie, Peter V. Brett, Scott Westerfield, R.A. Salvatore and James Enge. A few great book reviews, including Before They are Hanged and Acacia. Also, don’t miss the cover of Mark Charan Newton’s The Book of Transformations, or the news on The Hobbit movie.

Holy schnikes! Where to begin this week? How about reviews of books by Tad Williams, Mark Chadbourn, Mark Charan Newton, Paul Hoffman, and Jo Graham? Or maybe interviews with R.A. Salvatore, Guy Gavriel Kay and Naomi Novik? Not to your liking? Try The Way of Kings tour schedule, Stephen King’s The Dark Tower becoming a film trilogy and a tv series and the babes of Dragon*Con on for size. Still not happy? Will a new trailer for Towers of Midnight please you? No? Ok, then check out The Guide to Writing Fantasy and Science Fiction, answer the question of what hobbits, robots and yahoos have in common, and check out The Guild: Season 4, Episode 8. Thirsty for more? Well, you’ll have to look elsewhere, I’m spent.

A great bunch of reviews this week, from Grave Peril by Jim Butcher to Nights of Villjamur by Mark Charan Newton. We’re also seeing more authors get into the habit of not only running their own blog, but creating guest posts on other blogs, as Mark Charan Newton has done with Amazon.com’s Omnivoracious blog.

The cover for Gail Z. Martin’s The Sworn was released this week, and we’ve got a great mix of reviews, from Terry Brooks’ latest to a pair of Adrian Tchaikovsky novels, to the Swords and Dark Magic compilation. We’ve also located an interview with George R.R. Martin’s editor who discusses her work on A Clash of Kings. Topping off this week is our first mention of eReaders in the fantasy blogosphere, and it comes in the form of Ray Kurzweil offering a solution to books that get mangled by current eReader software.
