Amazon’s Top 5 Fantasy Bestsellers, November 28, 2010

Towers of Midnight continues to place first, while World War Z makes a return for the holidays. Breaking Dawn, Side Jobs and Vampire Moon round out the top 5, but the real story here is that during the busiest online shopping weekend of the year, hardcover books have replace what has been overwhelmingly a majority of digital books that have been ranking in Amazon’s top 5 for the past year. This speaks to the notion that when purchasing something for ourselves, we tend to not purchase the upper tier, but when giving a gift, we want to give the best quality gift possible.

  1. Towers of Midnight (Hardcover) by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson
  2. World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War (Hardcover) by Max Brooks
  3. Breaking Dawn (Hardcover) by Stephanie Meyer
  4. Side Jobs: Stories From the Dresden Files (Hardcover) by Jim Butcher
  5. Vampire Moon (Kindle) by J.R. Rain

Amazon’s Top 5 Fantasy Bestsellers, September 5, 2010

It only lasted a week, but boy was it sweet. Although Tolkien and Brooks drop off the Amazon top 5 list this week, we get another fantastic offering: Brandon Sanderson’s The Way of Kings is released, and fills 2 of the top 5 slots with both the hardcover and Kindle editions, giving Sanderson 60% majority holdings of the top 5. Sweet.

I should mention that I’ll be making the distinction between Kindle, hardcover, and any other versions going forward, since they are separate items and should be accounted for as such. And there’s no better way to kick it off than with a double dose of Sanderson goodness.

  1. Towers of Midnight (Hardcover) by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson
  2. The Way of Kings (Kindle) by Brandon Sanderson
  3. Dead in the Family (Kindle) by Charlaine Harris
  4. Breaking Dawn (Kindle) by Stephanie Meyer
  5. The Way of Kings (Hardcover) by Brandon Sanderson

Amazon’s Top 5 Fantasy Bestsellers, August 28, 2010

Amazon’s top 5 fantasy bestsellers, August 28, 2010: The Return of the Awesome? For the first time in recent memory, the top 5 fantasy bestsellers on amazon.com are not dominated by vampire/teen novels! And it only took the king, the Elvis of fantasy, J.R.R. Tolkien to dethrone the fad. Not a bad trio to round out the top three really, with Towers of Midnight holding strong, and Terry Brooks’ latest Shannara novel (Kindle version) rounding out the top 3. I’m so happy I’m not sure what to do with myself now.

  1. The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun by J.R.R. Tolkien & Christopher Tolkien
  2. Towers of Midnight by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson
  3. Bearers of the Black Staff: Legends of Shannara by Terry Brooks
  4. Dead in the Family by Charlaine Harris
  5. Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer
